The balance-sheets of the leading British shipping Companies are regularly dealt with in Fairplay, and the Editor, feeling that it would prove useful if the accounts were presented in book form, supplemented by the figures of other shipping Companies and the names of the principal shareholders, published twenty-five years ago, the first edition of this work. In this edition a summary of the last four balance-sheets issued by shipping Companies is given wherever possible, and, in addition, particulars of many which were not dealt with last year, and the amount of the liens, in any. The balance-sheets of all the shipping Companies referred to could not be obtained, nor is it deemed necessary, owing to the numbers involved, to furnish a complete list of the shareholders.

Volume 1 contains ship operator vessel type codes; vessel flag codes; ship operators; ship managers; charterers; shipbuilders and repairers; engine builders, designers and repairers; towage and salvage, offshore supply and dredging; and vessel, company, personnel and advertisers; indexes. Volume 2 containers ship operator vessel type codes; vessel flag codes; marine equipment and services; marine computing; ship finance; marine insurance; protection and indemnity; maritime lawyers and arbitrators; ship brokers; maritime organisations; consultants and surveyors; maritime schools; classification societies; port authorities and operators; and company, personnel and advertisers' indexes.

The principal purpose of the volume is to provide interested parties in the marine industries with comprehensive details on the 122 standard design dry cargo ships between 499 gross registered tons and 9,500 dead-weight tons which were marketed at the time of publication. Altogether, 48 principal shipbuilders are represented together with licensees and subcontractors. A line profile drawing of each design with salient details appears below each shipbuilder.

This book covers the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) from a market perspective. It has chapters on the ships themselves (with contents including service history, life extension of VLCCs, legislation and future VLCC design, and design options), the fleets (with contents on changing ownership patterns of the world's fleet, oil companies and independent operators by country of domicile), the shipyards (including order books and yards), and supply and demand (with contents on influences on the demand of VLCC tonnage, newbuilding price trends, and sale and purchase price trends). There are also appendices on existing VLCCs, existing ULCCs and existing VLOBOs.

This book is the fourth and final publication in a series of Fairplay Special Reports examining the seaborne carriage of specialised liquids in bulk. Its purpose is to provide the reader with a comprehensive survey of the most important aspects of refined petroleum product shipping, from ship design and operations to developments in world refinery construction and forecasts of fleet development through the 1980s.

This is a Fairplay report, dividing chapters between those of technical matters and those of commercial importance. Contents cover a brief history of ro-ro ships, ship propulsion, ship structural considerations, ship safety, ro-ro access, cargo handling - equipment and operations, ro-ro ship types, short sea/coastal services, deep sea services, and potential areas for ro-ro including the Caribbean, West Africa, the Middle East, the Far East and South America.
