Licence Terms

The information and materials you are about to access (“HEC Information”) are proprietary to the Lloyd’s Register Foundation (“the Foundation”) and/or its licensors, who reserve all copyright, database right and other intellectual property rights in and to it, except for those rights of use expressly granted to you under this educational and research use licence (“Educational Licence”).

The Foundation’s intention in making the HEC Information available to you without charge is to support and further scientific education, research and analysis.  You are therefore encouraged to use and re-use the HEC Information freely and flexibly, PROVIDED THAT:

  • Your use is solely for Education & Research Purposes (as defined below);
  • You do not delete or modify any documents or related graphics held on this website in any way;
  • You do not use graphics on this website separately from accompanying text;
  • Any copyright or other notice applied to such documents or graphics as they appear on this website is reproduced and applied by you to any copies you make, including by incorporation (in whole or in part) within your own documents or works;
  • You agree to provide to the Foundation full and complete disclosure of your research findings and that the Foundation shall be entitled without charge to incorporate such findings (with appropriate acknowledgement) into the HEC Information and to make them available by users of the HEC website on the terms of this Educational Licence; and
  • In publishing or disclosing your research you acknowledge as a source Lloyd’s Register Foundation and this website and, where you incorporate any HEC Information within in any materials, analysis, documentation or information you produce in the course of your research, you ensure this is clearly identified as being subject to the terms of this Educational Licence.

Any use of extracts or information from this website other than in accordance with the above conditions is prohibited.

Within this Educational Licence the term ‘Education & Research Purposes’ means use solely for personal research or educational projects carried by a private individual for their own personal study or by a non-profit educational, academic and/or research institution. This explicitly excludes research or projects which are contracted to you (or the entity by which you are contracted or employed) by any third party for a fee or payment in kind, and/or which are done in collaboration with a third party that is funding your activities in whole or in part in exchange for commercial rights on the results and/or the right to delay their publication.

If you wish to use the HEC Information other than for Education & Research Purposes or are unsure whether your proposed use qualifies as such you should contact the HEC team at hec.info@lrfoundation.org.uk, where alternative licences (including commercial use licences) may, at the Foundation’s discretion, be available.
