Corey is a PhD candidate at the University of Portsmouth. His project, funded by the LRFHEC, is researching Lloyd’s Register surveyors in China in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It uses the experiences of these understudied individuals to not only develop historical understanding of the Lloyd’s Register’s role and presence in China, but also to explore broader historiographical themes such as colonialism and international maritime networks. Corey is a graduate of the University of Plymouth and he won the BCMH prizes for his undergraduate (2020) and masters (2021) dissertations.
